Social Studies Mission Statement: To develop the student's fullest intellectual, emotional and social potential. The Social Studies program will enable each student to become a humane, rational, responsible and contributing member of our global society, making wise use of its natural, cultural and material wealth and recognizing its spiritual strength and diversity. This requires the study of human society from its origins to the present with a view towards enhancing the quality of life for future generations. The diverse offerings of history and Social Science courses that make up the program will provide opportunities for development of knowledge, skills and behavior reflecting democratic values and attitudes. The priority of the Social Studies program will be directed towards engaging students in integrated activities which involve employing thinking skills to solve real-life problems. This will lead to a self-directed approach utilizing research skills and the management of information. As a result of participating in the Social Studies program, students will have had the necessary preparation to assume their proper roles in society.
