Dear Parent/Guardian:
Once again this year, Pilgrim students will have the opportunity to take part in a Community Service program. The service program is a voluntary program that is based on a commitment to our neighbors, especially those in need. Students may volunteer at any church, school or other organization that serves the needs of children, elderly or needy people.
Following the successful completion of their service hours, students will receive a certificate of participation which will be included in their file in the Guidance Office. This certificate, in addition to all a student’s academic records, will be sent to colleges, employers, etc. once they begin the college or job search. Based on a student’s job performance, he/she may even want a site supervisor to write a recommendation for future reference. You will note on the next page (Student Contract) the number of hours that will be required for a student in each grade level to receive the certificate. It is important to understand that the Code of Ethics of the Warwick School Department and the rules of the Pilgrim High School Student Handbook will need to be followed while students are on a site.
Many of our students have already completed a number of hours this past summer. Simply fill out the attached sheet (Student Contract) completely in order for us to verify a student’s participation with the service agency. Return the Student Contract to Ms. Durand in Guidance as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, call or see me at any time.
Sincerely,
Susan Durand
